We welcome new volunteers who can share their skills and experience. Are you a multi-tasker? A technology buff? Like to drive? Learn more about helping Weston seniors with the Council on Aging (COA). View and/or print our latest brochure of volunteer opportunities (PDF).
Currently, we are in the greatest need of the following:
Meals on Wheels Driver
Add your name to our roster of drivers for the Home Delivered Meals program. Drivers are needed to deliver weekday lunches (and say hello) to home-bound Weston seniors. Numbers vary but average 2 or 3 for each of 2 daily volunteers. Meals are available for delivery from the COA by 10:30 a.m. each morning and require some lifting of insulated bags. Schedules are completely flexible. Directions and guidance are provided.
Transportation: FISH (Friends in Service Helping) Caller
Coordinate rides for seniors needing transportation to medical appointments. Callers are “on duty” just 1 day per month to arrange for the drivers for the requests that have come in on that day — typically 1-3 rides need coordination. Make calls whenever and wherever is convenient for you.
Transportation: FISH Driver
Give someone a ride to a medical appointment. Trips are scheduled based on your availability and location preferences. Most rides are local.
Volunteer Opportunities Are Also Online
Join our volunteer community on the Lotsa Helping Hands website and you can connect with seniors and the COA, task by task. Upon request, you will be invited to access our calendar to sign up to for 1 or more volunteer opportunities. Drop off a birthday treat, help out at the COA, etc. You decide which tasks best fit your schedule.
All volunteers must complete the COA Volunteer Application, Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information form and COA Confidentiality Agreement. Drivers are also asked to provide proof of insurance, a driving record and a valid car inspection.
For more information on these and other activities, contact Leila Hewitt, Volunteer Coordinator, at 781-786-6280 or by email.
