Weston’s Town Center was spared the fate of so many other town centers along Route 20 with the construction of the Boston Post Road By-Pass taking most through traffic around, rather than directly through the center of town. Even so, this historic focal point in town has many demands on it:
Accessibility for patrons of town center businesses
Utility infrastructure both above and under ground
All of these issues must all be reconciled in a small section of town less than half a mile long.
The Board of Selectmen have charged the Town Center Planning Committee (TCPC) with developing a vision and plan for Weston's Town Center, the area of interest being within the right of way, more or less from the watering trough at the intersection of Church Street and Boston Post Road to the intersection of Boston Post Road and Linwood Road.
The Committee shall consider the following:
Mitigation of construction impact
Natural gas and electrical power infrastructure
Other related issues as may arise
Pedestrian safety and traffic
Consideration shall be given to ensuring a balance of aesthetics, safety, convenience, cost, and such other factors as the Committee shall deem appropriate.
The Committee consists of a member of the following elected and appointed town boards/committees:
Board of Selectmen
Traffic and Sidewalk Committee
Additionally, the committee will have 5 members appointed by the Board of Selectmen, which include 2 representatives from the Weston Center business community, 1 homeowner/resident residing in or near the described section of town center, and 2 at-large residents.
The Committee shall also include the following members ex-officio:
Chief of Police or designee
Director of the Department of Public Works or designee
The Board of Selectmen is open to considering expanding the scope and membership of the Committee upon request of the Committee.
