A conceptual design is ongoing for a sidewalk/footpath on Highland Street between Black Oak Road and Lookout Point to make connection to existing sidewalks at either end.
This project was approved under Article 7 of the Special Town Meeting on December 1, 2014.
The consultants were charged with identifying appropriate locations for the sidewalk based upon numerous constraints to minimize land disturbance and impacts to mature trees, stone walls, utility poles, and wetland resource areas. The April 2015 Progress Drawings (PDF) show an alignment on the west side of Highland Street, as this was determined from a site walk to be the most logical placement.
The committee will be seeking feedback from the public, and abutters in particular, on this alignment as well as having the consultant develop final design and construction cost estimates. A public meeting will be scheduled at a point where the committee believes the project is ready for presentation.
