The Spellman Museum: History of Postcards Talk

Monday, September 18, 2017

Some people say they are old fashioned Instagrams. People once sent them by the thousands while on vacations to make friends jealous. They are postcards and the public is invited to learn more about their history and the history of the town of Wellesley. Co-sponsored with the Wellesley Historical Society, Alden Ludlow, archivist with the Wellesley Historical Society, will give an illustrated lecture of historical postcards featuring the Town of Wellesley. His talk will explore the historical development of postcards by showing those that highlight Wellesley’s buildings, public spaces, and activities. In addition, he will examine early postcard history and how postcards were produced and published. The presentation is derived from the current Wellesley Historical Society exhibit, "Greetings from Wellesley! Our Town in Photo Postcards.”
