Lyme Disease in Massachusetts
Most Weston residents know of a family member, friend, or neighbor who has been treated for one of the three tick-borne diseases that are widespread in our area:
- Anaplasmosis (Erlichiosis)
- Babesiosis
- Lyme
These diseases can seriously impact an individual’s health and life-style, and it’s important to learn about the diseases, their symptoms, and ways in which you can protect yourself and loved ones.
The Special Commission on Lyme Disease, comprised of public health experts, issued its report, Lyme Disease in Massachusetts (PDF) on February 28, 2013. The Lyme Commission reported that Lyme disease has reached epidemic proportions in the state.
Weston’s Conservation Commission adopted the Lyme Commission’s prevention recommendations including environmental intervention, deer management, and education on personal protection.
