Owls and Their Prey--Rescheduled!

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Expand your awareness of food chains, life cycles and ecosystems! Observe the contents of a North American owl pellet, learn about the habits of owls, their adaptations and roles in nature, and discover firsthand the types of prey owls consume. After an introduction to owls and their physical and behavioral adaptations, participants will be divided into small groups. Each group will be given a sterilized owl pellet. Kids will dissect the owl pellet, being careful to separate the tiny bones from the fur, observe the different types of prey consumed, the number of prey in each pellet, and see if they can put together a full or partial skeleton. No live owls will be at the program. This program was rescheduled due to weather. If you were signed up for the Early Release Day program, you are already registered. If you were not, please sign up at the Weston Library Youth Services Desk.
