Butterfly: The life and times of James McNeil Whistler

Tuesday, February 5, 2019

The Weston Public Library is pleased to welcome back acclaimed actor Stephen Colins, who will perform "Butterfly" by Carl A. Rossi, a one-man show about the life and times of James McNeil Whistler, the volatile American artist who struggled for artistic expression and personal freedom mostly in Victorian England. The play depicts Whistler at two phases of his life: first as a bankrupt artist in his 40s on commission in Venice, then as the lonely but established legend in his 60s living in London. The play ends with an explanation of how it was he came to paint the iconic portrait of his mother. Collins is a classically-trained actor who has performed in many productions.
