Carbon Taxes as a Solution to Climate Change

The MetroWest Climate Solutions Group, a new volunteer committee made up of members from the Lincoln, Wayland, and Weston Unitarian Universalist congregations and other individuals, has arranged for two discussion on tackling climate change. At this session, the featured speaker is Gilbert Metcalf, Professor of Economics, Tufts University, and an expert on carbon taxes. He will explain how a carbon tax – one of the most effective tools in combating climate change – might work. Dr. Metcalf’s current research focuses on policy evaluation and design in the area of energy and climate change. He has frequently testified before Congress, and has served on expert panels for the National Academies of Sciences and the EPA. He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment and Energy at the Department of Treasury.
