National Preparedness Month - Week 2: Make a Plan With Family

wk2butt

With Hurricane Dorian’s impacts in the news, kids may be wondering whether that sort of devastation could happen here. Planning can be reassuring and it can start as simply as having a conversation over dinner. Consider the following:

  • How will we receive emergency alerts and warnings?
  • What is our shelter plan?
  • What is our evacuation route?
  • What is our family/household communication plan?
  • Are there any specific needs in our household we should incorporate?

See Ready.gov/Plan and Weston.org/Prepare for resources on making a family emergency plan and remember that it’s important to include your children in the disaster planning process. To make sure everyone is “Prepared, Not Scared,” review your family's emergency plan together so they know what to do even if you are not together. Find child-friendly ideas and activities at Ready.gov/Kids.

Watch for next week's tip from the Weston Emergency Reserve Corps.

Be sure your emergency communication preferences are up to date at Weston.org/WestonAlerts.
