Developing the annual operating budget is a long process that begins in October and ends when residents at Annual Town Meeting vote to approve it. Residents can follow the budget development process through a series of open meetings, which are filmed by Weston Media Center if meeting attendance is not optimal.
Residents interested in the deeper details of the Town’s operating budget are encouraged to attend the Finance Committee discussions and review, as well as the meetings of the Select Board and the School Committee when the budgets will be discussed, as well as the School Budget Hearing. All of these meetings are open to the public and are posted on the Town’s online meeting calendar. Residents can subscribe to receive email/text notifications of when these meeting are posted to the online calendar at Weston.org/StayInformed.
Residents should subscribe to receive email/text notifications of when the board/committee meetings agendas are posted online to receive official scheduling. The public hearing of the Community Preservation Committee is scheduled for March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. This committee will be meeting every other Monday starting January 27 to discuss FY21 CPA budget requests.
The Warrant and Budget Book will be mailed to each household in April and will also be posted online. This booklet will contain the final recommended operating budget and the reports of the Select Board, School Committee, Community Preservation Committee, and Finance Committee, as well as the Warrant for Annual Town Meeting, which will be called to order on May 11th and is when the budget is approved by voters.
