Annual Hydrant Flushing Program

flushbutton.jpg

The Water Division of the Weston Department of Public Works is flushing fire hydrants throughout the Town. This annual program typically begins in April but was delayed due to the intensity of the public health emergency in the spring. The purpose of flushing hydrants is to remove sediment buildup in the water mains, which if left in the main over time could cause taste, odor and turbidity problems to consumers.

The flushing process can dislodge small particles in the water main. Please note the following:

  • Hydrant flushing may result in a temporary discoloration of the water
  • This discoloration may stain your laundry, especially white materials.
  • To avoid possibly staining your laundry, let the cold water run for a minute or two or until the water clears.

Hydrant flushing will be performed on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. starting from the south side of town and working towards the north side. The program schedule map is available on the DPW website.
