July 31 - August 4, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - construction is ongoing with utility overhead wires being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed. Verizon lines remain;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in the summer 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup, which includes scraping, cleaning, and painting the railing on easterly side of roadway in the spring/summer 2017;
- Sudbury Road and Ripley Lane - Top course pavement installed;
- Additional roadway reconstruction work is anticipated to take place later this summer, but the schedule is driven by other work that needs to occur first. Work includes: Fairview Road drainage work; Viles Street gas main work is completed and water work consisting of the removal of lead link, tap, and sleeve is also completed, but the new gate work is outstanding; and Locust Road gas main work is completed.
- Work on drainage designs and securing necessary easements on Newton Street continues. This must be done before planning the roadway work;
- The Merriam Street gas main project will well underway, but will take most of the summer and likely end sometime in the fall
State/Utility Project Work- Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues. MassDOT is also setting the schedule for milling and overlay work on Route 20 from School Street to I-95 Interchange;
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - the work to move the overhead utility lines to new poles has continued. Removal of existing utility poles anticipated over the next several weeks followed by structure adjustments, final paving, pavement markings, sign installations, final landscaping, and final cleanup.
- National Grid’s gas relay projects on Merriam Street are underway. Locust Road gas main replacement is completed. Summer Street gas main replacement work started (southerly end by River Road)

Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project ongoing – the engineering work to move the generator and the final landscaping and screening are underway. Town Engineer will conduct an abutter outreach prior to advertising the work is completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project. Anticipate readvertising the project in the fall;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on the Southside Drainage Project. Attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for spring 2018;
- Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. Anticipate readvertising the project in the fall
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies – Feasibility plans available for viewing online.
- Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project - DPW has reached out to two abutters of the project that require easements;
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - several easement issues remain; the project has gone before the Conservation Commission;
- Highland Street Sidewalk Project is on hold. Outreach by the Traffic & Sidewalk Committee conducted;
- Ash Street Sidewalk Concept - Outreach by Traffic & Sidewalk Committee needs to be conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study. Anticipate submitting project to the State as a TIP project;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street. Continued to work on design at Fairview and Montvale Road area;
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project. Survey completed. Drainage inspection ongoing / summarizing drainage recommendation. Design contract executed. Portion of the design contract for burying the utilities is being prepared by the consultant
Engineering- Currently reviewing 16 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 60 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 43 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 2 final reads;
- Continued meter reading cycle 3;
- Installed 1 new large meter at High School ball field;
- Installed a tap, sleeve and valve on Viles Street;
- Responded to 0 low-pressure calls;
- Responded to 0 dirty water calls;
- Painting fire hydrants and watering of planted trees continued

Park and Cemetery Division- 1 cremation interment;
- 1 casket interment;
- Dug 2 casket interments and 1 cremation interment;
- Cut and trimmed Wellesley Street Pump Station, Police Station, Linwood Cemetery, Farmers Burial Cemetery;
- Clean and washed all cemetery equipment

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed 2, 100-yard solid waste dumpsters totaling 41.69 tons;
- Processed cardboard container – 5.15 tons;
- Processed 1 glass container – 2.29 tons;
- Processed 1 plastic container – 0.0 tons;
- Processed 1 newspaper container – 9.72 tons;
- Ran 1 shuttles for grass/leaves – 8.82 tons;
- Ran 2 shuttles for brush /logs – 6.28 tons;
- Processed 1 metal container – 3.53 tons;
- Donations various – 3.23 tons;
- Electronics and appliances w/Freon – 0 tons;
- Organized and maintained order in swap shed;
- Pumped the trailer pit as needed

Highway/Stormwater Division- Roadside mowing at South Avenue, Wellesley Street, Blueberry Hill, Glen Road, Orchard Street, and Park Road;
- Hot patching potholes at Cherry Brook Road, October Lane, Spring Road, Park Road, South Avenue, Spruce Hill Road, Conant Road, and Merriam Street;
- Mowing islands and grass strips at north, middle and south sections of town;
- Oversaw tree removals at locations on Wildwood Road, Concord Road, and two on Sudbury Road;
- Driveway aprons preparation for binder paving at Ripley Lane and Sudbury Road;
- Clean, service, and prepared mowing equipment for following week's use;
- Assist Water Division with tap sleeves on Viles Road and Lantern Lane;
- Traffic control for Sudbury Road and Ripley Lane, and Viles Road;
- Deliver notices of paving operations at Ripley Lane and Sudbury Road;
- Signage and maintenance repairs at multiple locations;
- Repair rattling drainage covers and grates on Highland Street and North Avenue;
- Rotate compost area for aeration purposes at brush dump;
- Catch basin repairs at locations along Beaver Road, Black Oak, and two at Linwood Cemetery;
- Pave basins of the week at Beaver Road, Black Oak, and Linwood Cemetery;
- Oversee paving contractor at Ripley Lane and Sudbury Road;
- Clear scrub trees and grindings at a location on Newton Street;
- Mow brush at Case Property along Wellesley Street

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 1 school bus, 3 police vehicles, 9 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 0 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 0 major repairs on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity;
- Performed 0 repairs on sanders/plows
