The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division

Paving and Roadwork

Drainage Work

Fairview Road - culvert replacement between Conant and Montvale roads ongoing;
Highland Street (btwn Pine and Rt. 30) - drainage work ongoing and we anticipate several days longer weather dependent;
Water gate replacement at Merriam St/Aberdeen Rd - ongoing;
Newton Street drainage design work nearing completion

Calendar Year 2018 Anticipated Roadway Reconstructions –

Fairview Road and Montvale Road intersection, Winter Street (Route 30 to Brown Street), Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Oak Street), Highland Street (Pine Street to Route 30) - assuming all gas work, water work, and drainage work is completed;
DPW anticipates Gail Road, Pembroke Road, Webster Road, and Arrowhead Road will occur if the gas work (National Grid) can get completed this year;
DPW continues to work on obtaining easements on Newton Street before roadway work can begin

Reconstruction

Aspen Road, Juniper Road, Cherry Brook Road (from Juniper to no. 156) - top course of pavement installed week of July 2nd with final landscaping, etc. scheduled after paving;
Concord Road (from Merriam Street to Sudbury Road) - top course of pavement installed week of July 2nd with final landscaping, etc. scheduled after paving

Paving Completed

Summer Street – pavement markings anticipated in next few weeks, replacement of guardrail anticipated late summer;
Conant Road (Church Street to Woodward Lane) - pavement markings anticipated in next few weeks

State/Utility Project Work

Ongoing

Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - final landscaping and final cleanup ongoing. MassDOT and its contractor are non-committal with schedule to complete;
Continuing to coordinate with Eversource on a number of outstanding issues in Town including double poles, poles guyed into trees, leaning poles and pole guyed with rope (Merriam Street), hazard trees at/near power lines, etc.
Continuing to coordinate with Eversource and MassDCR on the Rail Trail Project - Fence rail work continues (mostly in Wayland and working towards Weston) and is anticipated to continue over the next several days. Additionally, it is anticipated that final paving will take place on the trail mid-July. DPW Director is working with Rail Trail Advisory Committee in setting up a consultant contract for proposed trail parking areas, etc., draft proposal has been reviewed and consultant is modifying

National Grid's Gas Relay Projects -
Proposed for construction 2018: all work on hold due to ongoing labor dispute
Sherburn Circle, continuation of Wellesley Street (699-654: petition submitted to Selectmen), and Concord Road (1-81)

Current Construction: all work on hold due to ongoing labor dispute

Gail Road (11 - 27) with Pembroke Road to follow, Oak St (94 - 147)
Newton Street (2 - 217) and Pheasant Trail (1 - 25)

Engineering

Drainage/Water Work

DPW continues to work on obtaining necessary easements on Newton Street before roadway work can be planned;
Black Oak Pump Station Project – Town Engineer working on easement document with impacted property owner. Town Engineer working with Eversource and property owner to address some/all pole concerns;
Southside Drainage Project - The necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project have been secured. The permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for fall 2018. Conservation Commission meeting upon receipt of all Phase II easement will be next action item

Progress Made

Chiltern Road Water Main Replacement - service installation completed with one still needing to be changed over, but having trouble contacting owner;
Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project - electrical and plumbing work remaining

Consultant Work

Ongoing

Overseeing consultants’ work on Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project;
Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - funding secured (Annual Town Meeting) for the work, culvert replacement and drainage work needs to take place, sidewalk project needs to be coordinated with roadway work;
Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street and Merriam Street). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street;
Town Center Improvement Project - DPW has provided review comments to the consultant on the submitted 30% plans (May 25th submission and are available on the Town website)
Wireless Meter Reading, meter replacements and meter installation (approximately 1700) - Interviews with vendors that met criteria was held on March 21st. No change, yet;
Concord Road Culvert replacement (which has impacts on the Warren Avenue and Merriam Street culverts) - Decision matrix tabling is being evaluated

Stormwater

Currently reviewing 11 Stormwater Permits;
Currently issued 50 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division

Completed approximately 21 DigSafes;
Performed weekly samples (3), monthly water samples at tanks, and station/tank inspections;
Conducted 3 final reads;
Oversaw the repair of the water station generator;
Oversaw the installation of 3 new water gates at the intersection of Merriam Street and Aberdeen Road;
Continued meter reading;
Continued hydrant flushing program in the north section;
Painting hydrants

Park and Cemetery Division

1 cremation interment;
Cleaned and serviced equipment;
Cut grass at Town Hall, Town Green perimeter, Wellesley Pump Station, Linwood Cemetery and other park and cemetery locations, as needed;
Weeded various flower and shrub beds in parks and cemeteries;
Tuff cut rough areas around the Town Green;
Trimmed, pruned and removed a few dead branches and dead trees around the parks and cemeteries as needed;
Continued updating the cemetery spreadsheets for interments and lot owners;
Assisted the Solid Waste and Recycling Division with the pick-up of solid waste and recycling at Town buildings on July 6th

Solid Waste and Recycling Division

Processed 1, 100-yard solid waste dumpsters totaling 25.75 tons;
Picked up municipal office recycling – 900 lbs;
Picked up Town office and select Town park solid waste – 1,080 lbs.;
Processed 1 cardboard container – 5.23 tons;
Processed 1 glass container – 6.65 tons;
Ran 1 shuttle for brush /logs – 6.66 tons;
Processed 1 metal container – 8.48 tons;
Process 1 container of scrap wood – 6.73 tons;
Assisted with the pickup of various donations including clothing, electronics, books and bikes – 720 lbs;
Assisted with pickup of Weston textiles – 1,820 lbs;
Organized and maintained order in swap shed;
Cleaned and pumped in the trailer pit as needed;
Picked up litter and cleaned up around the site as needed;
Cut the grass on the landfill cap and around the building

Highway/Stormwater Division

Hot patching potholes: various;
Pave roadside erosion: Spruce Hill Road, Kings Grant Road, Myles Standish, Bay State, Indian Hill;
Fallen tree / branch removal from roadway and/or culverts: Lexington Street, South Avenue (2);
Inspect miscellaneous tree locations for possible action: several;
Street sweeping: Sutton Place, North Avenue, South Avenue, Highland Street, Ash Street, Town Center, and Town House Road;
Respond to miscellaneous calls for service: roadside litter and objects in roadway, illegal sign removal;
Set up detours: Cherry Brook, Concord Road, Merriam Street;
Fixed washouts / repair roadside washouts: Spruce Hill Road, Kings Grant Road, Glen Road, Summer Street, and Concord Road;
Checked and cleared catch basins and drainage swales: storm preparation;
Oversee drain cleaning and video: Cherry Brook Road;
Install catch basin and manhole ID markers – middle section;
Install catch basin risers: Concord Road at Culvert;
Cleaned and serviced equipment;
Cut keyways for paving contractor;
Worked with paving contractor: Cherry Brook, Juniper, Aspen, and Concord Road;
Work with loaming contractor: Cherry Brook, Juniper, Aspen, and Concord Road;
Load waste material and transport;
Assisted MWRA with repair of erosion, loam and seeding: dam swale area at Glen Road

Vehicle Maintenance Division

Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 2 school buses, 2 police vehicles, 6 DPW trucks and other equipment, 1 recreation vehicle, and 0 school grounds vehicles noting that the DPW Vehicle Maintenance Division is responsible for over 122 pieces of rolling stock for the Town;
Performed 3 major repairs on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity: S-1 fenders and parking brake; H-10 front brake and sut shields; H-22 hydraulic leak
