June 2, 2019, 2:00 PM @ Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History
Come spend some time with Joseph Roulin, Vincent van Gogh’s postman and friend as the Spellman Museum becomes a café in southern France. The program entitled “Vincent: A Portrait by the Postman Roulin” tells Van Gogh’s passionate story as a man and an artist. Van Gogh painted over 20 portraits of Roulin and his family that captured the spirit of his postman friend. Award-winning actor Ted Zalewski becomes Roulin in this one-person show that he created to tell about Van Gogh’s life. By sitting at a café table with a loaf of bread and a glass of wine, he brings both Van Gogh and Roulin to life with a fascinating true story. Zalewski has performed his portrait at such venues as the Smithsonian, the National Theatre and the Norman Rockwell Museum. Reviews have called his presentations “humorous,” “spellbinding” and “unforgettable.”
June 2, 2019, All Day @ Weston Public Library
Quilter Allyn Callahan will be displaying a selection of her quilts in the library's art gallery for the month of June. Originally a public health educator, Allyn became interested in quilting as a hobby during a 10-month long boating trip she and her husband took six years ago. Her friend, a quilt maker and teacher got Allyn started so she would have something to do during long evenings on the boat. Quilting quickly became more than a hobby as Allyn began to explore different techniques and uses of fabrics and colors. The quilts on display at the library are examples of applique, machine piecing, bargello patterns, and combinations of styles.
