To celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Spellman Museum has put together a special Black History Month exhibit featuring stamps about Dr. King and more. Various stamp activities for children include: making a US stamps collection from the Black Heritage US stamp series; a stamp scavenger hunts for prizes; stamp puzzles; searching in the Museum’s two-cent stamp boxes; design Dr. King stamps to display in the Museum’s main gallery; several arts and crafts activities with stamps; and have a photo made into a stamp and create envelopes to send letters to friends. The postage will be free. In addition, each family will receive a packet of stamps, a Dr. King US commemorative stamp, and a Black Heritage First Day Cover. A booklet about how to start a stamp collection will also be available. Kids can also become members of the Museum free for one year and get packets of stamps each month.

This class provides cardio, stretching & strengthening in a non-threatening environment. Participants work on cardiopulmonary fitness, balance, improve joint range of motion and learn proper form for strength training of both upper and lower body. Exercises are done standing, but chairs are available if one needs to sit down during the class. It is appropriate for all levels of fitness..

A high energy class with dance moves to Latin and world music songs, while the instructor leads and breaks the moves down into smaller steps. Ability to step forward, backward and to each side is useful in this class, but all levels are welcome.

This class focuses on exercises and movements that tone muscles and improve the ability to perform everyday activities. The main emphasis is on core strengthening to improve balance, posture, coordination, stability, range of motion and flexibility. There is a combination of chair and standing exercises helps focus on different muscle groups, minimizing the possibility of repetitive movement injuries. Functional Fitness is open to all levels of fitness and includes use of dyna bands, light hand/leg weights & pilates rings, all of which are supplied.

This “slow flow” class is for anyone who can get up and down off a yoga mat. No previous experience is required and everyone moves at his or her own pace. Yoga poses increase strength, improve mobility and enhance balance. Mats and props provided.
