In partnership with the Conservation Commission, Land’s Sake selectively cuts firewood on Weston Conservation Land to maintain the forests and keep them healthy. Land’s Sake is managing the forest on a portion of the Municipal Purposes land at the Case Estates, abutting the Woodland Elementary School. This Forestry Walk is an opportunity for community members to learn more about sustainable forest management in Weston by taking a tour of the land with Land’s Sake staff. We will plan to meet in the parking lot by the Case Barn. It may be easiest to park on Alphabet Lane and walk over to the Case Barn. If you have any questions, please email, call or visit online.

With movies like The LEGO Movie and Fantastic Mr. Fox, stop-motion animation has never been more popular! This Empow Studios workshop takes this medium and teaches kids how to create their own animated mini-movies through storyboarding, filming and post-production. Materials like clay, LEGOs and paper are used to create characters, backgrounds and props. Once characters and backgrounds are made, students use computers, webcams and animation software to bring their stories to life! After filming, students add titles, transitions, sounds and music to make their movies complete. Movies are available to take home and share with family and friends.

Why read out loud to a dog? Because a dog is friendly and fuzzy and loves the attention of being read to! Kids gain confidence in their reading skills and enjoy the company of Maggie, our fabulous reading buddy. The program is in the Storytelling Room--when reading, the reader, Maggie and Katie (her trainer), are in the room. Parents and siblings should remain outside. Readers just gaining confidence don't need a big audience! There is a built in time for photos and for siblings to meet Maggie too.
